Hazelwood Art Fair & Book Sale is June 4

( May 31, 2011)

People who enjoy looking at the masterpieces of local artists or finding a literary treasure to add to their book collection are urged to attend the 8th Annual Community Art Fair and Used Book Sale, sponsored by the Hazelwood Community Enrichment Commission.  The event will be held at the Hazelwood Community Center, 1186 Teson Road in White Birch Park, on Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free.  Local artists, ages 16 and over, will have their art pieces on display for everyone to see.  Their creative talent may reflect the following techniques: water color; acrylic; oil; pastel; charcoal; and mixed media.  No sculptures or computer generated graphics will be shown.  Those who wish to purchase a painting from one of the artists may do so.  Used books will be available for purchase as well.

Artists participating in the event can submit up to 10 entries to be professionally judged in four categories: Landscape/Still Life; Real Life; Fantasy/Science Fiction; and Abstract/Non-Objective.  Cash prizes are going to be awarded in each category.  Entry applications are available at both recreation centers, Hazelwood Community Center and Civic Center East.  Advanced registration is preferred, but entries can be submitted on the morning of the fair.

For more information on registration and the event itself, call the Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Office at (314) 731-0980 or TDD 1-711.
