This Weekend: ACS’s North County Relay For Life at Hazelwood Central

What has been a long-time summer tradition in North County returns this weekend when the American Cancer Society holds its annual relay For Life on Friday, July 31-Aug. 1 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the track at Hazelwood Central High School. Teams collect funds for each time they circle the track. Many teams camp-out all night at the event.

Highlights of the event include the survivors taking the first walk around the track in their purple tee shirts and the lighting of the luminarias just after dusk. The candles in the luminaria brown paper bags each represents a cancer victim.

This is the 25th anniversary of the nationwide Relay For Life. The North County event has been held for 11 years.
