The Florissant City Council passed bills approving several new businesses at the city council meeting Monday, May 27.
A bill that would approve a rezoning for the old QuikTrip property at 8400 N. Lindbergh to allow for a Firestone Auto Service passed, as did a bill that would authorize a Sunworks Tanning Salon at 462 Howdershell Road.
A new Fish and Chips restaurant gained approval. The restaurant will be located at 8141 N. Lindbergh. The Latino’s Restaurant location on Lindbergh is reopening as The All Start Bar and Grill.
In addition, the council passed a bill authorizing a special use permit transfer to the Papa Johns Pizza at 8209 N. Lindbergh. The restaurant was part of an annexation and this transfer makes them compliant in the city. The council also passed bills approving renovations at two Taco Bells in the city, one at 1491 Dunn Road, in Grandview Plaza and one at 2525 N. Hwy 67.
The council postponed a bill that would replace the definition of a family in the city code. The council will take this bill up on July 25. Several members wanted more time for council and city staff to study this bill.
Charter Review Bill Postponed Until July 11
The council also postponed the bill that would establish a City Charter Review Commission. Councilwoman Karen McKay, one of five council members who introduced the bill, said she was moving to postpone it to July 11 in response to concerns from Councilman Mark Schmidt at the last meeting.
Schmidt had pointed out then that if the bill passed, the council as it currently is composed would appoint the commission. Schmidt also pointed out that the council has two seats that will be filled in the August 2 election. He suggested that the council wait and let the new council members be present when the commission is appointed.
McKay said that by moving the vote to July 11, if the bill is passed, the commission will not be appointed until after the August election, allowing the new council members to appoint commission members.
