Hazelwood School Board Earns State Leadership Award for 3rd Year in a Row

For the third consecutive year, the Hazelwood School District Board of Education has earned the Missouri School Boards’ Association Education Leadership Team Award. The HSD Board is one of only nine boards selected statewide from more than 500 school districts.

According to MSBA, this prestigious award is based on the school board’s outstanding commitment to ongoing professional development, regional and statewide leadership, active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools and the successful implementation of education policy to improve the local school district.

In order to earn the Education Leadership team honor, school boards must meet the following criteria:

-All seven school board members in each awarded district have completed the required 16 hours of training from MSBA.
-At least two board members in each awarded district have attained the advanced level of certification from MSBA.
-At least one board member in each awarded district has attained the master’s level of certification, MSBA’s highest certification distinction.
-Representatives from each awarded district attended MSBA’s 2006 Annual Conference.
-Representatives from each awarded district attended either MSBA’s 2007 Spring Regional or 2006 Fall Regional meetings.
-Representatives from each awarded district attended MSBA’s 2007 Legislative Forum in Jefferson City.
-Each awarded district had representative participation n MSBA’s Delegate Assembly.
-Each awarded district participates in MSBA’s Policy Services and has conducted a policy review in the last year.

Hazelwood Board of Education members include: Mark Behlmann, president; Desiree Whitlock, vice-president; Ann Gibbons, secretary; Carol Stroker, treasurer; and directors Joe Donahue, Diane Dowdy and Chuck Woods.
