Red Cross Offers Clean-Up Supplies in Dellwood;

Shelter Remains Open in Maryland Heights

Red Cross volunteers continue damage assessments and mobile feeding in neighborhoods

St. Louis, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 – Based on developing needs in storm-damaged neighborhoods,

the American Red Cross will be offering clean-up items from a fixed location at the Dellwood

Recreation Center. The Red Cross will provide tarps, duct tape, coolers, shovels, clean-up kits, work

gloves, trash bags, comfort kits, small flashlights and hand sanitizer to storm victims. Residents must

bring proof of identification and residency in one of the affected neighborhoods (i.e. a driver’s license,

utility bill, etc.). This distribution will continue in the days to come as needed.

The Red Cross shelter remains open for families who are displaced from their homes due to the

storms.

The Red Cross, along with community partners including United Way of Greater St. Louis, are working

with emergency management officials, providing support for first responders, and staffing the Missouri

and Illinois Emergency Operations Centers (EOC).

Red Cross volunteers will continue “mobile feeding” efforts, driving Emergency Response Vehicles

throughout affected neighborhoods and handing out meals. To date, the Red Cross has served more

than 2,000 meals and snacks. Outreach teams are canvassing neighborhoods performing damage

assessments and providing casework as needed, which is anticipated to continue through the week.

In addition, the St. Louis Area Chapter is helping to send supplies and support the disaster relief

efforts throughout southern Missouri and Illinois, where flooding has forced hundreds of families to

evacuate their homes. Ten shelters are currently open to provide a safe place to stay along with

emergency care. Additional shelters will open as needed; to find a shelter location, go to

www.redcross.org and click “Find a Shelter.” As weather unfolds, additional trained volunteers are on

standby; St. Louis has more than 600 trained disaster volunteers ready to deploy at a moment’s

notice.

the Maryland Heights shelter or call 314.516.2700. Red Cross provides immediate assistance with

food, clothing, shelter and other critical needs in the wake of disasters and emergencies. For other
