Florissant Girl at LLCC Among Trio Credited With Saving Lives

Three Lincoln Land Community College volleyball players including 18-year-old Allysa Smith of Jacksonville, 19-year-old Carolyn Latimore of Florissant were honored with a mayoral proclamation last evening for their heroic efforts in saving the lives of a mother and two children whose vehicle went into Lake Springfield in  March.

Eighteen-year-old Allysa Smith of Jacksonville, Carolyn Latimore and 19-year-old Paige Boyer of Lincoln were jogging nearby when the accident occurred. They ran to Island Bay Yacht Club to get help. Several workers there rushed to the vehicle, broke a window and rescued the occupants.

The proclamation was presented to Allysa, Carolyn and Paige and the Yacht Club employees prior to the Springfield City Council meeting in the Municipal Building
The individuals who were rescued and the rest of their family were also in attendance, and presented their rescuers with a gift.
“We’re extremely proud of Ally, Cari and Paige,” said Ron Riggle, athletic director at LLCC. “Their quick thinking and action led to a lifesaving rescue.”
