Florissant 444 Legion, Manchester 208 Meet In Big District 10 Game

Florissant American Legion Post 444 Baseball have their eyes set on winning the Missouri District 10 title this season after finishing second to Ballwin last year in the post-season tournament.

Sunday, 1 p.m. at Parkway South High School Post 444 could know who will be the biggest challenge will be when the District 10 Tournament takes place later this month. Manchester Post 208 could be the team 444 may have to beat to win their first District 10 championship.

Prior to July 1 Florissant is 17-1 overall, 7-0 in District 10 play and is currently in first in the North Division. Post 444, in 18 games played, have outscored the opposition, 210-59.

Manchester, prior to June 26, is also 7-0 in District 10 but is 19-0 overall. Post 208, who leads the South Division, has outscored the opposition, 194-73.

The majority of players on the Post 444 team come from McCluer North High School, Suburban North Conference champions and Class Four, District Seven runner up. Mike Sevier is the coach of the 14-player team. Manchester is coached by Rick Fiala.

Post 444 has already won a tournament, played last month in Lebanon, Mo., and was completing a tournament at Blazer Field on July 1. After playing Manchester the 444 team is in the Blue Springs, Mo., Tournament, July 11-13, and will be the final tune-up before the District 10 Tournament, dates and site(s) to be announced.

Prior to July 1 Zack Doyle is batting .579 for Post 444 with an on-base percentage of .609 and a slugging percentage of .737. Cory Young has scored 27 runs on 33 hits, including 23 singles, has 45 total bases and has stolen 24 bases on 28 attempts. Four players — Tom Latimore, C.J. Ingram, Cory Remspecher and Matt Goldstein — have two home runs each; Goldstein has 10 doubles and 27 runs batted in while Remspecher has three triples and 10 walks.

In fielding, prior to July 1, Tim Rupp has been credited with 74 put outs, Remspecher has 34 assists and Ben Hendrix has helped out in six double-plays.

In pitching, prior to July 1, Goldstein, Tommy DiMercurio and Zach Malawey, who has 24 strikeouts, are each 3-0. DiMercurio, who has the only complete game as a starter and has pitched in 26.3 innings, and Remspecher, who has not allowed a run in six innings pitched, have two saves each in relief. Latimore has started four games, has an 0.69 earned run average in 20.3 innings pitched and has struck out 25.
The Florissant Post 444 Junior team was 2-15 overall, 2-14 in District 10 prior to July 2. They were playing in the post-season District 10 Tournament July 1 and lost 15-6 to Manchester.
