Christian Hospital Making History In Treating Lung Cancer With da Vinci® Robot

Christian Hospital has acquired the da Vinci® surgical system and  on Feb. 8  making health-care history with the St. Louis region’s first-ever full lung lobectomy to effectively treat lung cancer, performed at Christian Hospital with the skillful team of Washington University cardiothoracic surgeons Sunil Prasad, MD, Nabil Munfakh, MD, and Travis Crabtree, MD.

This amazing technology with high-definition 3D vision provides surgeons greater precision, control and access to hard-to-reach areas, allowing extremely complex operations – like the full lung lobectomy – to be performed through just a few small incisions.

For the lobectomy patient, this means:

• no large chest incision or rib spreading

•  reduced cancer reoccurrence

or mortality in advanced disease

• reduced pain

• less blood loss

• fewer complications

• faster return to pulmonary function

• shorter length of stay

• faster recovery

In addition to cardiothoracic procedures, other areas of surgical focus utilizing the da Vinci robot that will soon be performed at Christian Hospital include urology, gynecology, colorectal and some general surgery procedures.
