When J.C. Penny corporate announced last week that it was exiting the catalog business, a company spokesman said it would affect all 19 catalog stores in the country including this one at Jamestown Mall. But the company indicated it was studying all the options for the catalog stores and that some could be converting to full J.C. Penny stores or some could be sold be sold to other companies.
The 124,000-square foot store, along with Macy’s, are the only two anchor stores left at Jamestown and both have reported good sales. A consultant firm, hired by St. Louis County Economic Council, last year recommended keeping Macy’s and Penny’s Outlet open while the rest of the mall be torn-down and replace by a mixed used “village.” But no final decision as b een made, nor has thee been any announcement on the outlet store’s future use.
