North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU) Essay Winners

North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU) honored the winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Pratory Essay Contest last Sunday at a  MLK Celebration at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.

Oratory Essay Contest winners presented their essays along with two NCCU’s member choirs, St. Marks UMC and Third Presbyterian Church that will offer musical selections.  This year’s theme was Defining the Dream through Excellence, Engagement, and Equity of which five winners were selected.

The winners  include Nayh Brummer of Florissant, 5th grader from Lawson Elementary School, Hazelwood School District, Karen Sutherland, of North County Hazelwood Southwest Middle School and Olivia Thompson of Florissant Atonement Lutheran School, Precious Taylor, 12th grade of St. Louis, Central and Visual Performing Arts School, and one adult Valerie Johnson of St. Charles.  Each winner received their prize award from President Rance Thomas during the ceremony.  According to Dr. Thomas “this tends to be the major highlight of the Event.
