By Jim Wieners

North County winners in high school wrestling tournaments Jan. 15 were few and far between.

McCluer North participated in the Route 141 Rumble at Rockwood Summit in Fenton. Only two wrestlers, Fard Harris (119 pounds) and Curtis Peebles (125) were winners. Other place winners and the final team standings for McCluer North were not available at press time, after seeking published internet reports and results.

McCluer and Hazelwood West participated in the 41st Annual St. Charles High Invitational, a 20-team tournament that included McCluer South-Berkeley, Pattonville and Normandy. The Invitational was won by Mexico, Mo. High by one-half point (149.5-149.0) over Fort Zumwalt East.

Pattonville was the highest North County finisher with 128.5 points, good enough for fourth place. McCluer South-Berkeley finished seventh with 101, McCluer was 11th with 83, Normandy finished 16th with 42 and Hazelwood West was 17th with 40.5.

There were only two individual winners at St. Charles from North County schools. Antoine White, Hazelwood West, won at 125 pounds as he defeated Johnathan Keeton, Sumner, Andrew Westhoff, Fort Zumwalt East, Frederick Claxton, Normandy, and Cody Boehm, Windsor (Imperial). Almondo Conner, McCluer South-Berkeley, won at 145 defeating Allen Williams, Sumner, Chris Williams, Parkway Central, Justin Powell, McCluer, and Jeremiah Hathom, University City.
