New Hazelwood Middle Schools Near Completion; Dedications begin April 18 Hazelwood Central Middle
Although initial site preparation always put construction a few months behind sister middle schools being built in the Hazelwood School District, site managers say the new Hazelwood West Middle School will be ready for the spring grand opening dedications.
“All of the major items are coming to a close,” said Ken Schmitt, project superintendent at S. M. Wilson & Co. “We finally got to the point that we can tackle all of the detail items—punch list items and incidental items that need touch up.”
Schmitt said much of what is left to do is what you see from the outside—”paving the asphalt track and driveways, landscaping—trees, plants, bushes, sod and plant seeding.”
“One of the large items still left is the new entry road,” Schmitt said. “The design was just finished, so it is now underway.”
The district set dates for grand opening dedication ceremonies at each school from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.:
•April 18 at Hazelwood Central Middle School, located at 13450 Old Jamestown Road in Black Jack,
•April 24 for Hazelwood Southeast Middle School, located at 918 Prigge Road in Spanish Lake,
•April 25 at Hazelwood North Middle School, located at 4420 Vaile Road in Florissant, and
•April 26 at the new Hazelwood West Middle School, located at 12834 Missouri Bottom Road in Hazelwood.
