Ferguson-Florissant School Board Honors Students For Excellence

Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education honored the accomplishments of the following students and staff at its monthly board meeting on Dec. 12.

Tony Ditucci, McCluer High School’s Boys’ Tennis coach, for being named the 2010 Outstanding High School Coach by the St. Louis District Tennis Association (SLDTA).”Tony was selected for the honor because of his contagious enthusiasm for tennis and being instrumental in the growth of McCluer’s tennis program.

Tony worked very hard to organize the team that participated in the junior tennis team last summer,” said Kurt Jacob, athletic director. Besides Ditucci’s Outstanding High School Coach award, the St. Louis District Tennis Association handed out accolades at its awards banquet in 19 other categories to individuals and organizations in the St. Louis area that support tennis.

MN’s Ymani Wince Wins GSLABJ Scholarship, Is Published Journalist. The board applauds McCluer North High School’s Ymani Wince for participating in 2010 Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalist’s (GSLABJ) Minority Journalism Workshop and earning a $1,000 scholarship. Ymani, a junior, competed with students from all over the St. Louis area for the award. During the eight-week Saturday workshop, Ymani worked with professionals in print, broadcast, public relations and photo journalism

Halls Ferry Students, Teacher Named Finalists in NCCU’s MLK Contest. The board salutes Halls Ferry Elementary School six-graders Jimmaya Bailey, Adrienne Holloway, William Montgomery and their teacher, RaShawn Johnson, for being honored as finalists in the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratory contest. As finalists, they presented their essays titled “Defining the Dream Through Excellence, Engagement and Equity” before a panel of judges in December. The contest was sponsored by North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice.
