‘Christmas in Old Town’ Walk, Parade & Tree Lighting Dec. 4

Christmas in Old Town featuring the Christmas Walk, parade and tree lighting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 on rue St. Francois in Old Town Florissant. Activities will begin with the Christmas Walk, from 1-5 p.m., a parade at 5:30 p.m., and lighting of the city Christmas tree at 6 p.m.

All retail shops and restaurants will be open, so you can combine your day with eating, shopping, and enjoying the holiday festivities. The FLERT bus will operate from 1-5 p.m. providing anyone with rides up and down rue St. Francois for all of the fun.

Free tours will be available at Old St. Ferdinand Shrine which will be decorated for the Christmas season. Christmas musical entertainment will performed from 2-4 p.m. The shrine’s gift shop will be open where you may fine the perfect gift for someone on your list. Shrine visitors may also explore the Schoolhouse and browse through the large selection at the book fair. There will be bean soup and cornbread available.

Old St. Ferdinand Shrine is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the shrine.

While near the Shrine, visit Vintage Essential Antique Shop on rue St. Charles and Click Heating and Cooling, 124 rue St. Francois, will offer hot apple cider and cookies.

Santa will arrive at the Government Center, rue St, Francois at Florissant Rd., on the FLERT bus at 2 p.m. He will visit with children until 5 p.m.

Free cocoa and cookies will be available at the Senior Dining Center as well as Christmas decorations for purchase. There will also be a silent auction for Christmas baskets, stockings, and a quilt raffle sponsored by Florissant Old Town Partners from 1-5 p.m. The Senior Dining Center is located in the 600 block of rue St. Francois.

Take advantage of the free, FLERT bus transportation to the following shops: Stems Florist, Silver Moon Stencil Shop, Florissant Old Town Marketplace, Village of the Blue Rose, Dooley’s Florist, Korte’s Frames and Gifts (all on rue St. Francois), and Thistle and Clover and Generations Antique Shop (on rue St. Catherine.)

When the hunger pangs strike, take a break at one of these Old Town Florissant restaurants: Hendel’s Market Café (St. Denis at Jefferson St.), Helfer’s Deli (St. Ferdinand at Washington) and City Diner (rue St. Francois, near Florissant Rd.).

The Christmas parade will depart from Old St. Ferdinand Shrine at 5:30 p.m. and will travel up rue St. Francois to City Hall. At 6 p.m. the Christmas lighting ceremony will start.

Shrine Offers Tours, Book Sale During the Walk

Old St. Ferdinand Shrine and the Living History Reenactors will be offering special events during the Florissant Christmas Walk on Saturday, Dec. 4, from noon-5 p.m.  Reenactors will be offering free hot chocolate, plus visitors can roast their own marshmallows.

The Shrine will host its book sale with books for $4 per bag.  The sale will be on both floors of the Schoolhouse. The gift shop will be open, plus free tours of the Shrine will be given.

Shrine members will unveil the new strategic plan for Old St. Ferdinand Shrine at noon. Public input is encouraged.
