Hazelwood West, East Softball End

September With 10 Straight Wins

PREP NOTES-October began last Monday but for Hazelwood West and Hazelwood East Softball teams wished September continued. Both teams end September on 10-game winning streaks

HAZELWOOD WEST, which, prior to Sept. 11, lost six of their first seven games, ended September on a 10-game winning streak. That includes two wins over Suburban Conference-Red Pool rival Pattonville (5-4 and 6-0), wins over former Suburban North Conference rivals Ritenour (10-0)and Hazelwood Central (former Suburban XII North rival)(12-2) and a win over North County rival Trinity Catholic (15-1).

Senior pitcher Alexandria Cafolla, who was 40-6 in the previous \three seasons at Hazelwood West, is 11-6 this season with a 2.07 earned run average and 121 strikeouts in 17 games. At the plate Cafolla has 18 hits including 13 singles and drove in 13 runs. Senior     Mikayla Michaelson, as of Sept. 30, is batting .472 with five doubles and 12 runs batted in while senior Desirae Yost is slugging .725 with 22 runs scored on 19 hits including three doubles and three home runs.

Hazelwood West took an 11-6 overall record to Parkway North Oct. 1 and a 4-2 Suburban Red Pool record to Mehlville Oct. 2. West, which hosts Fox, Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4:15, is second to Northwest-Cedar Hill in the Suburban Red Pool. West also hosts Class Four, District Five, beginning Oct. 10.

HAZELWOOD EAST was unbeaten through 10 games, all in the Suburban Conference-Blue Pool, where the Spartans lead prior the Oct. 2 rematch against visiting McCluer South-Berkeley after East won 13-9 on Sept. 13. The Spartans have two wins each over Clayton (21-11 and 13-11), Normandy (17-0 and 25-6) and University City (23-8 and 16-8). East visits McCluer Thursday, 4 p.m. for a rematch (East won 15-5 Sept. 17) and hosts another rematch with Jennings on Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. (East won 15-12 on Sept. 18).

Senior Masami Holmes is batting .594 and slugging 1.188 with 21 runs scored on 19 hits including five home runs and 26 runs batted in. Senior Mariion Thomas has an on -base percentage of .765 including 13 walks while junior Dashanti Young has 12 walks, 11 stolen bases and scored 26 runs. As of Sept 30, Hazelwood East’s district assignment is “pending,” according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

   BOYS SOCCER DISRICTS — NORTH TECHNICAL moves from Class One, District Three to Class Two, District Three and will compete against District host Cardinal Ritter as well as Lift For Life Academy Charter and two Public High League teams (Roosevelt and Vashon). LUTHERAN NORTH takes over from North Tech as Class One, District One host against two City of St Louis teams (Crossroads College Prep and Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience, and Canton, from Northeast Missouri.
