North County Municipal Police Chiefs Association Accepting Applications for Citizen Police Academy

The North St. Louis County Municipal Police Chiefs Association will be sponsoring its eighth Citizen Police Academy for a 12-week period, starting Feb 8.  The academy will be hosted by the Overland Police Department, announced Hazelwood Police Chief Carl Wolf.

The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to break down the barrier between the police and the citizen.  This is an opportunity for citizens to meet their local Police Officers and interact with the Police Department.  Most people are unaware of the numerous services and resources provided by the Police Department to ensure the safety of the community and its residents.

Selected participants will meet for three hours on Tuesday evenings for a 12-week period at the Overland Police Department, located at 2410 Goodale Avenue in Overland.  Starting Feb. 8, all Academy classes will be taught by Police Officers.

The Citizen Police Academy will familiarize residents with the following areas:

History of Law Enforcement of Police Officer

How Calls are Handled

Drugs, Gangs & Cults

Criminal Law

Crime Scene Procedures

Investigations

Complaints & Reports

Juvenile Procedures / Child Abuse
