Carolyn Marty Named Greater North County Chamber President
Carolyn Marty, managing editor of the Suburban Journals of Greater St. Louis for its West, North, South and Jefferson County editions, has been named president of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce (GNCCC). Marty will begin her duties on Dec. 6.
Marty succeeds Diana Weidinger, who is retiring after serving 25 years as chamber president. The Greater North County Chamber of Commerce was known as the Florissant Valley Chamber of Commerce until 2008. The chamber, which serves Florissant, Hazelwood, Spanish Lake and other areas of North County, has approximately 375 members and has an operating budget of more than $240,000.
“We are delighted to have someone with the business expertise and marketing caliber of Carolyn Marty become our next president,” said David Otto, president of Handyman Hardware and chairman of the chamber board of directors. “Carolyn has worked tirelessly on behalf of North County in her 26 years as reporter, editor, managing editor and publisher of various Suburban Journal enterprises. She is well known and highly respected among area businesses and in the communities we represent.”
Marty has worked in several capacities with the Suburban Journals, which currently are owned and operated by Lee Enterprises of Davenport, Iowa. She has overseen operations of news, sales and graphic design departments and handled daily office operations, financial activity, staff hiring and training, budget development and purchasing.
As a journalist, she has held numerous editorial positions, including features, news and editorial writing and reporting. In her position as managing editor she has developed and implemented special projects as well as acted as liaison between the newspaper and its various communities.
Weidinger has kept chamber membership strong and vibrant in good economic times and bad. “We are indebted to Diana for her unceasing efforts to build the chamber and to promote its benefits to businesses throughout the greater North County area,” said Otto. “It is due to her dedication and commitment that the Chamber is as strong as it is today.”
Marty, a resident of Florissant, has an associate’s degree in journalism/communications from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. She has served on the boards of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Community Chamber of Commerce. Her professional honors include the 2010 Missouri Federation of Communications Quest Award, the 2008 National Federation of Communicators Award for columns and the 2007 North County Inc. Leadership Award for Community Involvement.
