Rams Could Use a Quick Start for a Turn Around

BY RANDY GARDNER

So how do you feel now about the Rams, as they start the football season this coming up weekend? Did you ever think that we would be 3-1 in the pre-season and looking pretty good on both sides of the ball?

I was very optimistic but I thought they would be lucky to be 2-2 in the preseason. I am keeping everything in perspective though as it is only preseason and the Rams were playing against second teamers most of the time. Also, being realistic is that the Rams are just one hit away in many positions from being in trouble, by that I mean, at running back there is little depth behind Steven Jackson. At QB, the Rams have Feely behind Bradford but I don’t feel very comfortable with that for the season.

Looking in the secondary and at receiver positions, the team is very young and inexperienced. The main thing though will be the offensive line, if they can keep Bradford in a standing up position, I think they will be fine. If I had to say today what I think the team will end up, I will 8-8 maybe 9-7 if they stay healthy. I will give you a more definite answer after I see this team play for real in week one.

Fans Will Miss Arch Rivalry

There is at least one team that we know can win in the Dome and that is the Mizzou Tigers after they handed Illinois their 9th loss in as many tries in the Arch Rivalry game.

This was a great game even though it wasn’t sold out because of the electricity in a rival game like this cannot be beaten. This was the last game of this rivalry at the Dome in which I think is a mistake.

What a great way to keep people from St. Louis involved in both teams than to have the opening game at the Dome.  Good luck to Gary Pinkel and the Tigers as they need it with all of their off the field problems with players and coaches.

Cardinals Still Baffle Us

The Baseball Cardinals continue to baffle us in the month of late August and now in September. I dont even know what to think.  The bats have been totally silent for the Birds except for a few games recently where they will pull out a victory. It’s hard to believe that you can have a guy in Albert Pujols win player of the month honors, but still have the team playing horribly. It just doesn’t add up.

I used to say this about the passion of the Rams, that it just wasn’t there, know I am starting to feel that way about the Redbirds. Someone really needs to step up and propel this team in the homestretch. Maybe another big Brawl? Whatever it takes.
