Juvenile Diabetes Run/Walk Set Sept. 12 in Florissant

The City of Florissant will hold its first Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Sept. 12. Mayor Robert Lowery got involved in the event because his 16-year-old grandson, Bryan, was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes in March 2008.

Finding a cure for diabetes is priority number one for the Lowery family with the support of the City of Florissant.

The JDRF run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the James J. Eagan Center. Registration will be held from 7:30-8 a.m. The 5K run will start at 8 a.m. and the one-mile run/walk at 8:10. Everyone who registers will receive a tee shirt and memorable token of the race. First-third place 5K run finishers will receive a trophy.

Age divisions are: Under 15, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. Timing will be by Big River Race Management.

The 5K course will start at the Eagan Center and wind its way around the neighborhood. The course will have a few hills, but start and end flat.

The cost is $20 for the 5K run in advance or $22 after Sept. 8 and $10 for the one-mile run/walk.  Make checks payable to: City of Florissant. All proceeds (after expenses) benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Registration can be made online until Sept. 8 at www.florissantmo.com. Packets will be available for pickup on Sept. 11, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Eagan Center.
