Another Great Year for Fido Follies

Fido Follies Still Remains a Fall Festival Crowd Favorite

huskie-lab-dogThe much-anticipated Fido Follies Dog Show was held Sunday afternoon at the Government Center parking lot on rue St. Francois, and once again drew big crowds of canines and humans alike. As always, the show was hosted by Baronwood Kennels and emceed by owner, Terrie Bert.

The contest was judged by Dr. Nick Toepke of Howdershell Animal Clinic, Dr. Theresa Bruemmer of Cross Keys Animal Clinic, and Bridget Cantyne, of Antech Veterinary Diagnostics.

This year the pooches competed for the regular prizes of trophies, plaques, and medals, but also for the newest additions: prize bags donated by Adam and Rio Tilley from Petsafe. PetSafe also had a booth at Fall Festival where a raffle was held for cool dog accessories like an automatic ball thrower and a Pagoda Pet Fountain. Tickets were $2, or three for $5, and all proceeds went to Stray Haven Feline Rescue St.Louis.

Contestants could enter their dogs in one or several categories, including Best Costume, Hairiest, Biggest, Smallest, Best Kisser, and Crowd Favorite. Ironically, in the midst of the pit bull ban controversy here in Florissant, this year’s Crowd Favorite winner was a pit bull named Roxy. The dog was awarded a trophy and a prize bag.

The dog show is always a great time for everyone, especially during the Best Trick portion. This year’s winners really did an impressive job. First place winner, Kota the Malamute, pretended to play dead after “being shot” by his owner and second place winner, Roxy as Minnie Mouse, rolled over beautifully in her red tutu. Fido Follies is free to enter and only requires that all dogs be licensed and current on their vaccinations.
