Florissant American Legion Post 444 Senior Baseball team opened the District 10 Tournament July 11with a 19-15 win over Oakville at ABC Park, St. Ann.
Game stats from July 11 were not available at press time. Post 444 Seniors were to play Manchester July 13 at Ellisville AA. Dates, times and site(s) for the rest of the tournament were not available at press time.
Post 444 Seniors had a win over District Nine St. Charles plus wins over District 10 teams Creve Coeur (twice), Oakville, Maryland Heights, and Ballwin while going 1-1 versus Thoman Boothe but the result against Manchester was not available at press time. Post 444 also went 4-0 in winning the Lebanon, Ill., Tournament. In 10 games Post 444 Seniors, in route to a District 10 North Division title, has scored over eight runs per game while allowing nearly five and one-half per game.
Offensively, prior to July 7 Travis McBride was batting .483 with an on-base percentage of .516 on base percentage and .517, scored nine times, had 14 hits and has stolen 10 bases. Devon Haynes has 15 hits, 17 total bases and six runs batted in. Greg Elliott has a .581 on base percentage, .682 slugging percentage with eight walks.
In pitching, prior to July 7 Ricky Cody has a 3-0 record in three starts, of which one of them was a complete game, with an 0.37 earned run average with 24 strikeouts and opposing batters are hitting .081.
Post 444 Senior Legion is coached by Todd Wright.
JUNIOR LEGION — Post 444 finished the year with a 3-7 overall record, 3-4 in District 10. Record does not include two games against Maryland Heights plus one each against Chesterfield and Eureka. The season ended with District 10 Tournament losses to Oakville and Thoman Boothe.
Florissant has wins over Chesterfield, Oakville and Creve Coeur while losing before the District 10 Tournament to Ballwin (twice), Manchester, Thoman Boothe and Eureka.
Offensively Justin White batted .462, with an on-base percentage of .588 and slugging percentage of .615, had six hits including a triple, walked four times and drove in four runs. Seth Close had four hits, all singles, and scored four times, Brantlee Wright has three doubles out of five hits and drove in six runs, Sevy McCoys has five hits, all singles, scored five times and drove in four runs and Alex Bomar has four RBIs.
In pitching Travis Seitrich, who has a 1.91 earned run average and 16 strikeouts while opponents were batting and slugging .119 each, and Justin Kershaw were both 1-0. In fielding Zach Schwering has two put outs and two assists, Bomar has three put outs, Wright has two put outs and Russell Wohldmann has two assists.
