Historic Florissant Awards Presentation Sunday, May 23

Historic Florissant’s fourth annual Lois Zimmerman Preservation Award ceremony will be held at the Franz Gittemeier House, 1067 Dunn Road, on Sunday, May 23,  at 2 p.m.

The Zimmerman Award is named for Lois Zimmerman, one of the original members of Historic Florissant, Inc.

The recipient of this year’s Zimmerman Award will be Mr. & Mrs. John Ortwig for their continued protection and care of the Union Church at 646 rue St. Francois. The Union Church was built about 1890 as the first Protestant Church in Florissant, shared by the Presbyterians, Baptists and Methodists.

In addition to the Zimmerman Award, two other Historic Florissant Awards will be presented at the ceremony. Recipients will be Patty and Daniel Sosa, owners of Dooley’s Florist and Gifts, 690 rue St. Francois, and Jane and Patrick Boyle, owners of the Michael Castello House, 755 rue St. Francois.

The ceremony will be held from 2-4 and is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
