Faust, Benedict State-Bound In Boys Tennis After Winning District Doubles

Hazelwood Central Boys Tennis Players Karl Faust and Steven Benedict have qualified to compete in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class Two Doubles Tournament May 29-30 at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield.

Faust and Benedict qualified since the won the Class Two, District Two Doubles championship May 12 at Forest Wood CC Racket Court. Faust and Benedict defeated a doubles team from St. Louis University High, 6-2, 6-4. SLUH will send two singles players, Greg Marifian and Joe Murphy-Baum after Marifian defeated Murphy-Baum, 6-1, 7-5, in the title match.

In the Class Two, District Two team standings St. Louis University High won with 35.5 points, Hazelwood Central was second with 28, McCluer North was third with 16, McCluer was fourth with 15 followed by Hazelwood West (10) and Hazelwood East (2). On May 17, weather permitting, Hazelwood Central hosted McCluer North and SLUH hosted McCluer in Team Regionals. The Central-North winner was to play Kirkwood or Oakville and the SLUH-McCluer winner was to face Parkway South, May 22 or earlier in the Team Sectionals with SLUH or McCluer to serve as Sectional host. The Sectionals include the State Quarterfinal round with that winner to go to state May 27 in Springfield.

BOYS GOLF — The MSHAA Championships were held May 17-18. Josh Schulz and Zach Schulz, McCluer North, and Stephen White, Hazelwood Central, were in Class Four at Sedalia Country Club, Sedalia, and David Withers, Lutheran North was in Class Two at Silo Ridge Golf Course, Bolivar.
