Hazelwood West Student Headed to New York in July

Madison Dennis, a junior at Hazelwood West High School, is going to Camp Broadway: The Next Step™ this summer in New York City to experience working with theatre and stage professionals.

Dennis, who dances, acts and sings, was nominated for Camp Broadway by artistic directors at COCA, Center of Creative Arts, in University City. Her nomination led to an all-expenses paid opportunity. She is in her first year with COCAdance, an advanced level student dance company. She spends seven days a week at COCA learning jazz, modern and hip-hop dance.

The news came as a surprise to Dennis. “They didn’t tell me. I had no idea,” she said excitedly. “This could be a good opportunity for networking.”

From July 12 -16, Dennis will “work with people on Broadway.” Some of the experiences she is looking forward to include small group workshops, vocal coaching, choreography, scene studies and working with celebrities.

Recently, Dennis was in the production of  Little Shop of Horror at Hazelwood West High School as a doo-wop girl.
