Hazelwood Central McCluer North, LHSN Golfers are State-Bound

By Jim Wieners

Four High School Boys Golfers — One from Hazelwood Central, Two from McCluer North and one from Lutheran North — will be competing May 17-18, 8 a.m. each day, in the Missouri State High School championships.

Stephen White, Hazelwood Central, as well as Josh Schulz and Zach Schulz, McCluer North will be competing in the Class Four State Tournament at Sedalia Country Club, Sedalia, while David Withers, Lutheran North, will be in Class Two State at Silo Ridge Golf Course, Bolivar.

All four golfers will compete as individuals as they were among the top 10 golfers from their district meet that were not on the district championship team. Last week White and the two McCluer North golfers were in Class Four, District Three won by Chaminade while Withers was in Class Two, District Two won by Whitfield.  The top 15 golfers in each state meet will receive medals.

White won Class Four District Three in a one-hole playoff over Alex Doneff, Chaminade, after the two topped the field with a seven-over-par 77 May 4 at Norwood Hills Country Club. White, who is heading to the University of Missouri, Columbia, fired a two-under par 70 last month at Eagle Springs Golf Course to win the Suburban North Tournament and has been at or below par in 11 of 13 matches he played.
