Greenway Chase Bridge to Close Due To Safety Issues

The Greenway Chase Drive Bridge will close on June 1 due to unsafe conditions. Florissant adopted Greenway Chase Drive and the bridge from St. Louis County during a recent annexation.

“Recent inspections revealed the conditions of the bridge are unsatisfactory,” stated Mayor Robert Lowery. “These inspections resulted in finding a delaminating deck and other signs of extreme age to the structure.”

A difficult geometric approach in which several accidents have occurred over the years prompted a grant proposal to rebuild this bridge and roadway by the city engineer.

Even with the grant, the city would be responsible for a 20 percent match resulting in an expenditure of over $1,000,000.00.

“With the current economic downfall the city cannot spend this amount of money for this particular infrastructure improvement at this time,” said Lowery.

The may will be coordinating with the Florissant Police Department, Florissant Valley Fire Protection District, and the Hazelwood School District regarding the upcoming bridge closure.
