Area Boy Scouts  Celebrating Scouting’s

100th Anniversary with Service Projects

The North Star District Boy Scouts has completed several projects that commemorated the scouts 100th year of service. On Saturday April 10, area Boy Scouts finished several months of community service projects all across North County as a way of showing the scouts commitment to the community.

“Boy scouting is still alive and serving the community’’ said North Star district Public Relations Chairman, Fred Schaljo.  Some of the projects included,  putting mulch around the Scared Heart Church,  cleaning up Sioux Passage park stream, cleaning up Ferguson Park,  visiting with the residents at Delmar Gardens, cleaning up around the Old Chain of Rocks bridge, spreading mulch, and planting bushes around schools in North County just to name a few.

The campaign was called, ‘’100 Good Turns in 100 Days’’ and the 100^th day was  Saturday, whgich also was the 100^th day in the year. The North Star District Boy Scouts recently had a tree planted in their honor by the Gardeners of Florissant for all the hard work they do around North County.

“It is fitting that the Gardeners of Florissant are planting a tree in our honor,”said Schaljo.  “All across the United States, Scouts and their parents and leaders are helping to replant trees in a forest in Montana that was destroyed by fire.”

The Boy Scouts of America has 17 districts in St. Louis and the culmination of each council’s volunteer work was a nice sight to see on Saturday. Their service proved that Boy Scouting is vibrant and very much alive and kicking.

At Monday night’s Florissant City Council meeting, a proclamation was read saluting Scouting 100^th anniversary and plaques were  presented to each of the troops from Florissant,
