India Moore, second from the left,  will have her artwork in the 2010 calendar of the American Kidney Fund.

India Moore, a 15-year-old Florissant resident, will have her artwork featured in the 2010 American Kidney Fund calendar. Her artwork, titled “Transplant Celebration” will be published on the August page. She was chosen as one of 13 winners chosen from a nationwide search. All of the winners are living with kidney disease.

The inspiration for India’s artwork came from her recent kidney transplant experience.  “I wanted to draw a picture of a few kids enjoying life after having a transplant.  They have renewed energy and eat whatever they want,” she said.  India credits her mother as her role model because “she knows what to do in certain situations.”

The 2010 calendars are available on the American Kidney Fund website (www.kidneyfund.org).  All proceeds from the calendars will directly support the programs and services of the American Kidney Fund, including vital financial assistance to kidney patients who are in need and programs for children with kidney disease.

In September, India along with the other winners and their families, attended an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., including a tour of the nation’s capital and an honorary awards dinner.

India believes in keeping a positive attitude.  “Never let kidney disease get you down.  Remember the situation could always be worse.  Be thankful that you are where you are today,” she said.  She aspires to be a dermatologist when she grows up.  In her spare time she enjoys drawing pictures and cartoons, reading novels, playing computer games, watching movies and playing sports.
