Hazelwood District Names 2 New Middle School Principals

The Hazelwood School District recently named  Sonya Ptah as the principal of Hazelwood Southeast Middle School and  Gary Jansen as the principal of Hazelwood East Middle School. The changes become effective July 1.

Ptah has more than 25 years experience in education and has been the principal of East Middle School since 2006.  Prior to coming to Hazelwood, she served as an assistant principal at both the middle and high school levels in the Lindbergh School District. Ptah also served five years as an assistant principal in the Special School District. She has experience teaching children and adults who have special needs, and coordinated educational programs for the St. Louis County Family Court.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree in special education from University of Missouri, and a Master of Science degree in educational administration and Doctorate of Education degree from Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville.

With nearly 15 years experience in education, Jansen currently serves as the associate principal at Hazelwood East High School, a role he has served since 2004. Prior to that time, Jansen was an assistant principal at East High School for two years. He also taught science for six years at Hazelwood Junior High School (now called Northwest Middle), and coordinated the QUEST middle school summer program. He was also a middle school team leader.

Jansen received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from University of Missouri-St. Louis, a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University and a Doctorate of Education from Maryville University.
