3 Candidates for 2 Seats on Hazelwood Dist. School Board

Three candidates, including two currently serving on the board, are on  the ballot for the Hazelwood School Board in Tuesday, April 6th elections. They are vying for a three-year term.

Cheryl Latham and her family,  her husband, Eric and two sons, Eric and Erron have lived in the district for almost nine years. Latham is the program manager for Voices for Children, an agency and CASA program that represents the best interest of children in foster care in St. Louis. She has served on many school and District committees. They include Hazelwood 1st, Prop 2, Middle-School Dev., Redistricting Committee, Contractor/Supplier Diversity Plan and behavior guide committees at all three levels. She also participated in assistant principal interview panels and served in several roles in PTA units at the school, District, and state-wide levels. Karlton Thornton has lived in the district for over 10 years. He has been employed with Ameren UE since 1982 where he is a Meter supervisor responsible for the purchasing, distribution, and reclamation of all electric metering and associated equipment for the State of Missouri. Karlton has been married to wife Karen for 15 years and they have two daughters. He also has an older daughter who resides in Lee’s Summit, MO. Karlton proudly serves as a Deacon with the First Missionary Baptist Church of Kinloch, now located in Black Jack. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. In addition he is a board member with DaySpring Centre for Arts and Education. He is also noted for his work with the St. Louis Black Repertory Theatre as a Sound Designer and longtime volunteer. He had been appointed to the Hazelwood School Board in 2009.

John C. Haigler, III is a financial advisor and accredited asset management specialist for Wells Fargo Advisors in the Town and Country office. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration. Haigler has resided in the Hazelwood School District since 1996. He is president of 100 Black Men of Metropolitian St. Louis. In 2009, he was named Board Member of the Year for the Human Development Corporation. John is a Past Master of Lone Star Lodge#2 and 32° Master Mason. He is a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Chruch in Florissant and he has two daughters in Maryland.
