Stars, Titans fall in Boys Soccer Quarters

There will be no return trip to the Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton, and the Missouri State High School Activities Association Boys Soccer Tournament for McCluer North and Trinity Catholic.

McCluer North, who finished fourth in Class Three last year, lost last Saturday in the Class Three Quarterfinals to St. Louis University High, 3-1. Trinity, who was Class One runner up to John Burroughs last year, lost Nov. 12 to Archdiocesan Athletic Association rival John F. Kennedy, 3-2, in the Class One Quarterfinals. Both games were at the A-B Center.

McCluer North finished with an 18-7 record and was Suburban North Conference champions (5-0). Trinity finished with a 15-8-1 record.

SLUH got goals from Grant Welge, Matt Reda and David Burr in the win over the Stars. Kennedy got two goals from Daniel McCune and two assists from Blake Ficken in the win over the Titans as Celts goalkeeper Ryan Schweppe stopped 10 Titan shots.

On Sept. 10 McCluer North won the Sectional round at the A-B Center over Francis Howell, 6-2. Evan Johnson scored three goals for the Stars while Zach Meyer had three assists. Josh Papes scored twice while Cameron Poindexter had two assists.
