Charity Classic at Norwood Country Club

              By Tom Anselm

So I am in Day 8 of Covid, feeling remarkably better, but on my way to get my media credentials, the sky turned weird and so did my forehead. Long known for being able to predict the weather with my sinuses, this was still a new one on me.

And sure enough, by the time I got to Norwookd Hills Country Club, the site of the Classic, I was feeling better. So…

Here is some info, short glance though it may be.

Thursday, September 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 on the Driving Range at Norwood Hills ther e will be a Accenture Youth Golf Clinic where kids can learn putting, chipping and various iron skills.

Free and open to the public, it features Kortland Ware, APGA Tour Professional and Head Golf Coach at Lincoln University.

This is in cooperation with Diversity Golf, First Tee of greater St. Louis and PGA REACH Gateway Special Olympics, Missouri. A good chance to see if your kid could be the next Tiger!!

Later in the Day will find interviews with David Toms, 2021 Champion, Ernie Els, many times major champion, Jay Williamson longtime on the Champions Tour and our very own Jay Delsing, born and bred in North St Louis County. Delsing is a fan favorite and is playing in this year’s event.

Other notables in the event, which starts its first round Friday, are Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Justin Leonard, David Duval, John Daly, Colin Montgomerie, Corey Pavin, Steve Flesch, Robert Karlsson, Billy Andrade and my three favorite-name golfers, Fred Funk and Jose Maria Olazabal.

Glad to see some of these veterans still out there a-swinging.

Missing in this grouping is defending 2022 Champion Padraig Harrington, who chose instead to play in the Irish Open. Well, thems the breaks, I suppose. Good Luck to ya, Paddy, me boyo.

Arnold Palmer and Bobby Jones were unavailable for comment.

Hoping to be out there at some point, health and the Good Lord willing. Hit ‘em straight, boys!
