SBA Addresses Florissant Council On
Steps to Take For SBA Flood Assistance
By Carol Arnett
Information about flood assistance was on the agenda for the Florissant City Council meeting Monday, Aug. 22. The council heard a presentation from the Small Business Administration (SBA) about help available to businesses and homeowners. Corey Williams, public information officer for the SBA, spoke to the councilWilliams said that businesses, homeowners, renters, and non-profits can all receive help.
He said the first step is to register with FEMA. He gave four ways to register: on line at Disasterassistance.gov, by phone (1-800- 624-3362), by the FEMA mobile app, and by visiting a disaster recovery center. The closest is the Hazelwood Civic Center, and it will be open through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Once someone registers with FEMA, Williams said, they may receive a referral to the SBA. He said homeowners my wonder why they are being referred to the SBA, but they offer disaster loans. He also cautioned businesses to be aware of economic injury. He said that sometimes businesses wait to apply because they don’t notice a downturn in sales immediately.
The council then held the regular meeting, with one public hearing and several bills.
The public hearing was about a request for a sit-down, carry-out restaurant located at 462 N. Highway 67. This is in the shopping center at the corner of Washington St. and Lindbergh Blvd, in the same strip as Walgreens. restaurant. He said it would have chicken and waffles. Hours would be 11 a.m. to 12 midnight Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
