ANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE. Probably the least visually exciting of the franchise thus far, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, reveals the backstories of several characters in addition to Dumbledore (Jude Law)and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). The film also draws comparisons between the European war and the political divisiveness now and during the inter-war years of the 1920s and 1930s and between current dictators and Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen).
MBULANCE: In this fast-paced, popcorn-spilling thriller, two brothers, one good (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who need money for his wife’s medical treatment, and one bad (Jake Gyllenhaal) attempt a bank robbery. Forced to hijack an ambulance as an emergency getaway car, the brothers inadvertently take the desperately injured police officer and the paramedic (Eiza Gonzalez) hostage and along for the hair-raising, destructive, police chase.
ATHER STU: For those still in need of a religious holiday film, Father Stu might fit the bill. One man’s (Mark Wahlberg) spiritual journey from cynic to saint-like acceptance of life for what it is — terrible and wondrous reinforces the lesson of There, but for the Grace of God, go I.
