 Dining Divas Shower Mom-to-be

at Dogtown Restaurant

By Lisa Kampeter

Each month I write about this group of women that I so fondly refer to as “divas”. In some situations, that word can have a negative connotation. But in most situations, it’s positively divine, like this month.
At the Divas brunch that kicked off the new year, we were missing a few Diva regulars, including the Pregnant Diva, but she was a big topic of conversation. Everyone agreed that we needed to have a special Dining Divas in honor of this mom-to-be. And that’s what we did this month.
With the help of Diva Husband/Father-to-be, we all met up on a brisk Sunday afternoon at Sunny’s Cantina on Manchester in Dogtown. For those of us who are fans of Failoni’s, Sunny’s is in the former location of JackSon’s, right down the street from Failoni’s. The Diva Husband was relatively confident he could convince her to get out and get some Mexican food, especially because she had been staying at home most of January and would welcome a meal out. Plus, their kitchen was being renovated, and carryout and microwave food was not very appealing anymore.
We surprised her, mostly. She didn’t understand why her husband insisted on lunch when she wanted to go for dinner, and then when she saw a car similar to one of the Divas parked off in the distance, she became suspicious. But she seemed shocked and a little overwhelmed when she walked into a room of cheers directed at her.
The staff at Sunny’s Cantina were amazing! Their slogan “no hay problema” (no problem) truly resonates at this place. Our waitress was so accommodating and kind, especially since we got there early, and then our guest of honor showed up late. And the room was perfect for a shower…although the couple that was seated in our area probably disagreed.
The Strawberry Margatini was a refreshing taste of summer, just what the Summer-Loving Diva needed. The Cadillac Margarita hit the spot, and when the Meticulous Diva ordered a Sangria, they happily made it her way, and she loved it.
The chips and salsa  were so thin and crispy, and when we added in queso dip, the chorizo and cheese dip, and some guacamole, it was even better. One Diva said they were better than most anywhere.
All of the Divas really liked what they ordered for their meal. That never happens! Playing it “Taco Bell safe”, the Picky Diva ordered the bean and cheese burrito, and it was a safe and tasty choice. The shrimp and chicken tacos were a popular choice as was the Tostada Stack, which is tostadas layered with chicken, rice, beans, and veggies mixed with flavorful sauces. Cheese-Loving Divas would have liked to add queso to it, and then it would have been amazing.
Sunny’s Cantina was a great place to shower the Mom-to-be Diva with lots of presents and lots of love. We’d all been praying for years for this dream to come true for this couple, and finally, our prayers were being answered. I’d say that makes this a Divine Divas.
