Hazelwood Central Assistant Principal, Jamestown Teacher Earn Apple for Teacher award

Andrea Flynn, assistant principal at Hazelwood Central High School and Tonya Jackson, a fourth grade teacher at Jamestown Elementary School, were honored at the 25th annual Iota Phi Lambda Sorority luncheon with the Apple for the Teacher Award.

In addition to being the freshman principal in one of the largest high schools in the state, Flynn, who has worked for 27 years in education, is a published poet and works diligently with students to prepare them for what lies ahead, in the classroom and in life.

Jackson is a 10-year educator and currently serves as second vice president of the Hazelwood NEA, a building-level professional development representative and chairperson for the HNEA’s minority affairs committee.

Iota Phi Lambda is an education sorority. The awards are given to recognize the professional life and career of St. Louis area teachers.
