New Help Hazelwood Get Healthy Campaign

Hazelwood School District Launches Help Hazelwood Get Healthy Campaign

Hazelwood School District (HSD) has announced the launch of a public health campaign aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19. The campaign officially kicks-off with a drive-thru resource event at Hazelwood Central High School, 15875 New Halls Ferry Rd., on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The district has assembled approximately 10,000 Help Hazelwood Get Healthy resource kits. The free kits include thermometers, disposable masks, information about COVID-19 symptoms/testing, and a community resource guide. One kit will be provided per HSD family until supplies are gone.

The Help Hazelwood Get Healthy campaign encourages people to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash their hands. Medical research shows there is a connection between the COVID-19 infection rates seen in school buildings and the rates in the surrounding community. Since the start of the pandemic, the zip codes HSD serves have experienced some of the highest infection rates in the state. As a result, school buildings were forced to close. The key to returning to face-to-face learning for all students without interruption is improving the health of the entire community. The health of a community greatly impacts the level of health in school settings.

Other campign initiatives include:

  • Public service announcement videos featuring HSD students.
  • Billboards at 270 and McDonnell facing west and 270 and Bellefontaine facing east.
  • Resource postcards mailed to all residents in the HSD area.
  • Radio advertisements on 95.5 FM and 104.1 FM through January 2021.
  • Help Hazelwood Get Healthy website page.
  • Building-level health contests supported by the Hazelwood NEA aimed at engagement.
