Hazelwood East Junior is KMOX-SEMO Student of Achievement

Sirena Gandy, a junior at Hazelwood East High School, has been chosen as a KMOX/Southeast Missouri State University Student of Achievement. The award recognizes 30 students throughout the metropolitan area who have shown outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, the arts, community service and leadership.

Nominated for the honor by guidance department chair Linda Harris and associate principal Gary Jansen, Gandy is an excellent student, said her counselor Shonda Phillips.

Gandy said some of the extracurricular activities in which she participates include running track, memberships in the East key club and science club. She said she also plays the flute in the school’s concert and symphonic bands and she serves as an usher at her church.
Gandy will receive a full tuition scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University in the fall of 2008. The Student of Achievement scholarship is renewable for three additional years with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and completion of 30 credit hours.
