HAZELWOOD FIREFIGHTERS OFFER PROGRAMS FOR SEASONAL NEEDS OF ITS RESIDENTS

OPERATION WARM – The Hazelwood Firefighters Community Outreach Program will continue their annual tradition of donating new coats, gloves, and hats to children who need them. Since one of the greatest needs is for children’s winter coats, Hazelwood firefighters started their Operation Warm campaign involving both Russell Elementary and McNair Elementary Schools.

Hazelwood children received new coats at the city’s
2018 OPERATION WARM.

The group works with Hazelwood school counselors to find children in need of coats. The firefighters then visit the students to get them fit for coats. Last year, the group donated over 50 coats. To make a donation, contact the Hazelwood Fire Department at 314-731-3424.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS GLOW – This year, the Hazelwood Firefighters Community Outreach Program is also participating in Operation Christmas Glow for the second year. Operation Christmas Glow raises money to help those who need it with bills and rent. To make a donation, contact the Hazelwood Fire Department at 314-731-3424.

HAZELWOOD POLICE GROUP HELPS FAMILIES IN NEED

During the holidays, the Hazelwood Police Benevolent Association chooses needy families in the area to assist with bills, and donate food or gifts that they cannot afford through their Help Families in Need Program. The families adopted by the program generally all reside in Hazelwood and their children attend our local schools.

Over the years, this program has relied upon the generous support of local business partners such as bioMérieux, Bommarito Ford, Nature’s Bakery, Cabela’s, and Burner Design & Control. Also, a lot of support also comes from the generous contributions made by city employees and Hazelwood residents.

You can donate to the Hazelwood Police Benevolent Association and/or the Families in Need program by contacting Officer Tim Benning at 314-838-5000 ext. 5243.

WRAPPED WITH WARMTH – The city’s Domestic Violence Victims coordinator is running a bed sheets drive for sexual assault victims. Often times, while gathering evidence at a sexual assault scene, the victim’s bedsheets are collected. Between Jan. 20 – 31, the city will be collecting new bedsheets to help replace the sheets collected as evidence. You can donate new sheets in the original packaging at city hall or the police station.
