VFW POST 4105 CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SERVICE

Florissant Valley Memorial VFW Post 4105 celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday, June 29. There was an awards ceremony at 1p.m., POW MIA presentation, bench dedication, pot luck lunch, snacks, and drink specials throughout the day, all followed up with The John Bourgeois Band on Saturday evening. Service Officers and VFW Recruiters were also on hand.

Chartered on July 2, 1969, Florissant Valley Memorial VFW Post 4105 became a part of the best city in America and started the journey of serving those who served. Their mission is to serve veterans, the military, and the community.

“No One Does More for Veterans” is the motto of the VFW and it is shown daily through partnerships with the Auxiliary, the Friends of Veterans, and the City of Florissant. FLORISSANT FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS!

Florissant’s proud tradition of celebrating Independence Day continues this year on the grounds of the James J. Eagan Center at Florissant Valley Park. There will be food trucks. Festivities begin with an outdoor concert performance by the Northwinds Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Following the concert, the City of Florissant is sponsoring its renowned fireworks display at 9:15 p.m

The City of Hazelwood has chosen ARC Pyrotechnics to         produce the Fourth of July pyromusical show for 2019. This year’s fireworks show is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, in White Birch Park at 1186 Teson Road. Starting time is around 9:15 p.m.

Ferguson’s annual fireworks display will again be held at January Wabash Memorial Park, 501 N. Florissant Rd., with fireworks beginning around 9:15 p.m. The theme is Ferguson Marching Forward and the festival colors are red, white, and blue. The parade begins at 10 a.m. this year.

2019 FAIR SAINT LOUIS PARTY

JULY 4-6 UNDER ARCH GROUNDS

Fair Saint Louis announced the entertainment lineup for its 2019 annual celebration. Country music singer Brett Young, R & B star Keith Sweat star and rock band The Flaming Lips are set to headline America’s Biggest Birthday Party, July 4, 5 and 6 at Gateway Arch National Park. Fair Saint Louis is a free event.

Performances on the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Stage also include country singer-songwriter Randy Houser, R&B legend Johnny Gill from the R&B super group New Edition and alternative rock band Vertical Horizon. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the Fair’s presenting partner this year.

“For 39 years, Fair Saint Louis has been a celebration for St. Louis produced by St. Louisans, and we are so excited to return to Gateway Arch National Park for three days of chart-topping entertainment, family-friendly activities, the world-renowned Boeing Air Show, and of course the Edward Jones Fireworks over the Mississippi River,” said David Estes, general chairman of Fair Saint Louis 2019.

Popular family-friendly Fair Saint Louis events and attractions such as the Boeing Air Show, Salute to the Troops presented by Express Scripts and Express Scripts Foundation, Purina Festival Zone and the Interactive Zone all return for each day of the Fair Saint Louis. Fireworks presented by Edward Jones will cap off each night.

America’s Birthday Parade (formerly the VP Parade) will kick off at the intersection of 20th and Market Street in downtown St. Louis on Wednesday, July 4 at 9:30 a.m. The parade will proceed east on Market Street, and end at Market and Broadway. JEFFERSON BARRACKS BLAST JULY 3

The annual JB Blast at Jefferson Barracks, 345 North Rd., St. Louis, will be held Wednesday, July 03 from 7-10 p.m.

Enjoy music by “The South Side Johnny Band” under the stars in the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater and a brilliant fireworks display to usher in another fun, filled celebration in honor of our country’s birth.

This year, the Blast will feature a concert from 7 to 9 p.m., with fireworks to follow. Admission and parking are free and concessions are available for purchase. Blankets, picnic baskets and coolers are welcome.

OFFERED AT GRANT’S FARM

Every Friday through the summer season, Grant’s Farm will host Friday Nights At The Farm. Each week will have a different themed food menu and beer pairings to go with it for those 21 plus. There will be live bands and extended park hours until 10 p.m.

The parking lot closes at 8:30 p.m. and the

band     starts at 7 p.m. Although Deer Park is open, it stops at 8:30 p.m.

JUNGLE BOOGIE CONCERTS

FRIDAYS AT ST. LOUIS ZOO

The Jungle Boogie Friday Night Concert Series, presented by Mid America Chevy Dealers, is currently going on at the St. Louis Zoo on Fridays from 5-8 p.m. through Aug. 30.

The popular concert series is located at the Schnuck Family Plaza in the center of the zoo. Admission to the zoo and concerts are free. Jungle Boogie concerts are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside Lakeside Cafe. Please feel free to bring a lawn chair. Jungle Boogie is one of the many events and activities you can enjoy during Prairie Farm Dairy Summer Zoo Weekends.

All ages can enjoy music on the outdoor stage in the center of the zoo. In addition to the music, there are animal-related kid’s activities focusing on the conservation of endangered species through the zoo’s WildCare Institute. Jungle Boogie drink specials are new this year, with happy hour specials on select beer, cider, wine and margaritas until 7 :30 p.m.

 

 

ZOO’S STINGRAY EXHIBIT OPEN

FOR SEASON THROUGH OCT. 31

Stingrays at Caribbean Cove presented by SSM Health opened at the Saint Louis Zoo on Friday, April 5 and runs through Oct. 31. Cownose rays and southern stingrays, along with bonnethead, brown-banded and white-spotted bamboo sharks glide through a 17,000-gallon warm saltwater pool located under the Edward Jones Pavilion. Guests are encouraged to dip their hands into the water and allow the animals to touch them. There will be opportunities throughout the day to feed the stingrays. These are hardy species that interact well with people in a safe and fun manner.

The 20-inch deep pool includes a waterfall and a state-of-the-art life support system. The pool also has solitary space and places for the animals to rest if they choose. Zoo interpreters and educators will be on hand to help visitors and to share information about the animals, sustainable seafood and ocean conservation.

Admission to Stingrays at Caribbean Cove is $3.95 per person for ages 2 and up. Children under age 2 are free. Zoo members at the Family Level and above may use their Anywhere Plus passes for admission. Admission is free the first hour the Zoo is open. Food for feeding stingrays is $1 per cup.

Visitors can enjoy a full day at the Zoo with all the amenities for just $12.95 with the Adventure Pass and receive free admission to Stingrays at Caribbean Cove and other attractions. Groups of 15 or more may call (314) 646-4718 in advance for group discounts.
