American Red Cross Gives Ferguson Parks Dept. Lifeguard Community Award

The St. Louis Area Chapter Celebration team, comprised of American Red Cross volunteers and staff, recently presented the Lifesaver Community Award to the City of Ferguson Parks and Recreation Department for encouraging water safety through Red Cross learn-to-swim lifeguarding lessons and First Aid/CPR/AED training.

As a Red Cross Authorized Provider, the City of Ferguson has taught approximately 470 children in learn-to-swim classes and certified 72 lifeguards.

“We are so pleased to recognize the City of Ferguson with the Lifesaver Community Award for preparing its staff and community to respond during emergency situations,” said Joyce Bathke, executive officer of health and safety services at the St. Louis Area Chapter. “By partnering with the Red Cross as a Water Safety Authorized Provider, the City has contributed to the well-being of the St. Louis community.”

At the presentation the Celebration Team recognized Pool Manager Matt Asikainen for his commitment to aquatic safety for both the City and the greater community.
