Track-Field Titles Are Triple Digits
By Jim Wieners
In 2018, Trinity Catholic Track And Field notched their first individual and relay event state titles but the Titans fell short of 60 points and fell short of State Team titles
May 25, 2019, Trinity had unfinished business and their mission is complete. The Titans won their first Boys Class Three State Title by scoring 100 points. Trinity Girls did even better by scoring 118 points to win their first Class Three State title. No other team, Boys or Girls, in any of the other four classes, manage to score 100 points.
Trinity won the Class Three State Track And Field Titles at the University of Missouri’s Audrey J. Walton Track Facility in Columbia. The meet moved to Columbia from Jefferson City High due to an EF-3 Tornado that damaged Adkins Stadium and Licklider Track on May 22 at 11:30 p.m. All Three of Trinity’s State titles, including the Class Three Football Title on Dec. 1, 2018, were at Mizzou.
Trinity dominated the Girls’ State Championship by doubling the 59 points scored by 2018 Champion John Burroughs while Cardinal Ritter and Knob Knoster share third place with 29. Trinity’s Boys finished 18 points ahead of 2018 Champion Cardinal Ritter (82), 52 ahead of Centralia (48) and 73 ahead of Maplewood-Richmond Heights (27). Trinity Girls and Boys titles are six years after Hazelwood Central won Class Four Girls and Boys (2013).
