Hazelwood Central’s 1986 Football team will be honored as a part of Missouri State High School Activities Association Sideline Traditions Ceremonies this Saturday, 6:05, at the Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis.
Hazelwood Central is one of seven high schools that played in the 1986 Show Me Bowl at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, scheduled to appear this weekend. Hazelwood Central will be honored prior to the Class Five final between Kirkwood and Raymore-Peculiar (see related story).

The 1986 Hazelwood Central team lost in the Class 5A title game, 13-10, to Kansas City Rockhurst, who defeated Hazelwood Central four times from 1981 to 1987 and Hazelwood Central, a 12-time state finalist, finished second nine times, won two outright titles and was a co-champion with Kansas City-Southwest, as Hazelwood High, in 1972.

Also Country Day School’s 1986 Class 3A State Championship team will be honored Saturday at 2:50 prior to the 3:15 Class Three Championship game between Owensville and defending state champion Harrisonville. CODASCO, in 1986, defeated Oak Grove, 31-7, but in the fall of 1991 CODASCO, an all-boys school, merged with Mary Institute, an all-girls school, to form MICDS. Combined CODASCO and MICDS have been in 11 state football finals winning seven state titles and was second four times, including last year.

Show-Me Bowl, 2006, Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis — Class Six — CBC vs. Blue Springs South, Friday, 7 p.m. (FSN Midwest) — CBC, more known for their success in Soccer, is in their first State Football Final and is carrying an 11-game winning streak after losing their season-opener at home, Sept. 1, to Hazelwood East, 35-12. CBC head coach Bob Shannon is no stranger to state championship games since he took East St. Louis to eight Illinois State Championship games and won six of them in a 13-year period.

Blue Springs South, ranked first in Class Six by the Associated Press, is 12-0 and is making only their second state title game appearance. In the 1995 Class 5A Championship Game in Joplin Blue Springs South’s first title game appearance resulted in a dominating 42-3 win by undefeated Hazelwood East.
