Prep Fall Practices Begin Aug. 10

High School Sports teams that participate in the fall season will begin pre-season practices Aug. 10 in Cross Country, Football, Field Hockey, Girls Golf, Boys Soccer, Softball, Boys Swimming, Girls Tennis and Girls Volleyball.

Fall Sports Activities in Girls Golf, Softball and Girls Tennis begins Aug. 24 while Cross Country, Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Boys Swimming and Girls Volleyball begin on Aug. 28, although those five teams may begin Aug. 31. Football opens the weekend of Aug. 28-29.

Missouri State High School Activities Association State Championships, which begin with districts, will crown champions in Girls Golf, Oct. 19-20 in Southwest Missouri, Softball, Oct. 23-24 in Columbia, Tennis, Oct 22 (team), Oct. 23-24 (singles-doubles) in Springfield, Girls Volleyball, Nov. 6-7 in Kansas City, Cross Country, Nov. 7 in Jefferson City, Boys Swimming, Nov. 13-14 at St. Peters’ Rec-Plex, Boys Soccer, Nov. 20-21 at Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton, and Football-Show Me Bowl, Nov. 27-28 at Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis.

MSHSAA does not sanction Field Hockey. North County Christian School, which does not compete in MSHSAA championships as a MSHSAA Affiliate Registered School, will compete in Missouri Christian Fall Sports Championships, likely in Joplin, in late October.

WINTER SEASON, 2009-2010 — Wrestling practices begin Nov. 2, Basketball practices begin Nov. 9 and Girls Swimming practices begin Nov. 16. Basketball and Wrestling seasons begin Nov. 23 while Girls Swimming begin Dec. 7. MSHSAA State Championships will take place in Wrestling, Feb. 18-20 in Columbia, Girls Swimming, Feb. 19-20 at St. Peters’ Rec-Plex, Basketball, March 11-13 (Classes Four and Five), March 18-20 (Classes, One, Two and Three) in Columbia.

North County Christian School will compete in Missouri Christian State Basketball Championships in Mid to late February, likely in Joplin.

SPRING SEASON, 2010 — Practices begin Feb. 22 for Water Polo and March 1 for Baseball, Boys Golf, Girls Lacrosse, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, Track and Field, and Boys Volleyball. Season begins March 15 for Water Polo and March 19 for Baseball, Boys Golf, Girls Lacrosse, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, Track and Field and Boys Volleyball although they could begin March 22.

Boys Lacrosse has been a club sport and may be this spring. The first day of practice and first day of competition is unknown at press time and the season concludes in late May.

The last day of competition must be before the last day of school unless teams are involved with MSHSAA state championships. North County Christian Spring Sports teams will end early May with the Missouri Christian Championships, likely in Joplin.

The MSHSAA Spring Sports Championships will be held in Boys Golf, May 17-18 in Southwest Missouri, Track and Field, May 21-22 (Classes One and Two), May 28-29 (Classes Three and Four) in Jefferson City, Boys Tennis, May 27 (Team), May 28-29 (singles-doubles), in Springfield, Baseball, June 2-3 (Classes One and Two), June 4-5 (Classes Three and Four) in Springfield, and Girls Soccer, June 4-5 at Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton.

MSHSAA CHANGES — Last April MSHSAA member institutions voted to change the start of the Fall and Spring Sports seasons. Member schools voted 335-69 in favor of starting the fall sports seasons for Cross Country, Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Boys Swimming and Girls Volleyball three days earlier. They will start Aug. 28.
