Hazelwood Central, McCluer South- Berkeley Win Girls District Track

Seeking to win back-to-back state titles since 1987-1988 Hazelwood Central Girls Track & Field begins its quest by winning Class Four, District Three, May 17 at McCluer High while McCluer South-Berkeley, seeking their first title since winning four straight (2007-2010) rolled to a Class Three, District Three title that same day at Lutheran North.

In Class Four, District Three Hazelwood Central scored 122 points but had to withstand a challenge from second-place McCluer North (114). Pattonville was Fourth (74), McCluer was fifth (67), Incarnate Word Academy was seventh (38), Hazelwood East was eighth (36), Ritenour was ninth (33), Hazelwood West was 10th (32) and Riverview Gardens was 11th (20).

In Class Three, District Three McCluer South-Berkeley scored 110 points while Lutheran North, who scored 82, was a distant second. North Tech was the next highest North County finisher, eighth with 35 while Trinity Catholic was 13th with 17.

Sectional Two qualifiers from Class Four, District Three and Class Three, District Three will compete May 24 at Troy-Buchanan High. The top four finishes from that meet advance to the State Championships, May 30-31 in Jefferson City.

Hazelwood Central qualified for Class Four, Sectional Two in eight events, including two in the 400-Meter Dash (Destiny Nash, Ariana Phillips), and three relay events including a win in the 4×100-Meter Relay (48.36 seconds). Ashley Henderson was a double-winner in sprints as she won the 100-Meter Dash in 11.91 seconds and the 200-Meter Dash in 24.69 seconds. The 4×200-Meter Relay (1:43.22) and 4×400-Meter Relay (4:02.75) were second-place finishers as was Alliah McClendon, 100-Meter Hurdles (14.82

McCluer South-Berkeley qualified for Class Three, Sectional Two in six individual events including three individuals each in the 100-Meter Dash and 200-Meter Dash and two in the 300-Meter Hurdles. Kamira Franklin was a double winner in events that qualified three and Franklin won the 100-Meter Dash (12.35 seconds) and the 200-Meter Dash (25.62 seconds). MS-Berkeley qualified in three relays and all three (4×100-47.37 seconds, 4×200-1:42.2 and 4×400-3:58.3) won district titles.

McCLUER NORTH qualified to compete for Class Four, Sectional Two in four individual events, two individuals in the 100-Meter Hurdles, 300-Meter Hurdles and 400-Meter Dash and all four relay events, winning the 4×200-Meter Relay (1:10.16) and 4×400-Meter Relay (3:55.26). Jasmine Barge won the two Hurdles events, the 100 Meters in 14.4 seconds and the 300-Meters in 46.74 seconds. Rachel Culberson won the 400-Meter Dash (58.03 seconds)

LUTHERAN NORTH qualified for Class Three Sectional Two in five individual and three Relay events, winning the 4×800-Meter Relay (10:42.55). Erica Mueller won the Triple Jump (36’5”) and was third in the Long Jump (16’3”) while Zoe Hamber won the 1,600-Meter Run.

McCLUER qualified for Class Four, Sectional Two in six individual events and two relay events. In the Triple Jump Kenyah Smith was the winner (36’7.75”) while Micah Jenkins was second (35’2.5”).

OTHER DISTRICT WINNERS include Sarah Mohrmann, Pattonville, 1,600-Meter Run (5:54.19); Jazmine Kinney, Pattonville, Pole Vault (9’1”); Kirby McClain, Pattonville, Discus (108’9”); Jade Gares, Incarnate Word Academy, Shot Put (35’4”); and Carlissha Newby, Riverview Gardens, High Jump (5’0”).
