Atonement Lutheran Church in Florissant, Living Christ Lutheran Church in Florissant, Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson and Unity Lutheran Church in BelNor joined together at their first-ever MobilePack unit July 14 to pack 150,520 meals in one day to feed starving children.

The successful event was held at Atonement Lutheran, located at 1285 North New Florissant Road, and drew 629 volunteers who packed enough to feed 420 kids a meal a day for one year.

The event was held in collaboration with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), which was founded in 1987 and is a Christian non-profit that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. The process is simple. Donations given by people fund the meal ingredients.

Volunteers hand-pack the meals. Meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world, where kids are fed and lives are saved! Over 700 volunteers are typically needed the day of the event and roughly $35,000 dollars to provide 150,000 meals in one day.

Feed My Starving Children has tackled world hunger since 1987 by sending volunteer-packed nutritious meals to 70 countries. These meals are specifically designed to reverse and prevent malnutrition and are used in schools, orphanages, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty.

“In 2015 FMSC welcomed more than 1 million volunteers to pack nearly 273 million meals through its permanent sites and nationwide MobilePack program. The Minnesota based charity spends 92% of total donations directly on feeding the hungry and has earned the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for 11 consecutive years.”

6,200 children die each day from starvation or spoiled food. Feed My Starving Children’s mission is “to feed God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit.” Look for the pack to come again next year or go to their FB link for other opportunities to participate in various fundraisers.
