Stanley Cup Finals Were A Big Treat

BY RANDY GARDNER
I know since the Blues were long out of the playoffs that many of you did not even take a second glance at the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year but if you did, you were in for a big treat. The series went all seven games and Pittsburgh came back to defeat Detroit in the Motor City.

It was a madhouse during the game. This was the true definition of a sports rivalry.

At the end when the Penguins hoisted the cup the fans of Detroit were pretty nice as they cheered for the opposing team. I was waiting for them to throw their chairs out on the ice at them. Hockey will be back soon and I am looking forward to the Blues putting forth a great effort next year.

DeAndre “The Bull” will be Back

I don’t know how many of you are boxing fans but over the past few years, I have been following a few local boxers really close. One of those boxers being DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore, who recently fought and lost to Spinks at the Scottrade Center. He will be back to fight in August on a Nationwide Cable Channel.

I also had the chance this past weekend to see Ryan Coyne fight. This guy was chosen to be on the last round of the Contender TV Series. He made it pretty far and then was knocked out due to an injury. He fought his first big fight after the series and got a TKO in round number four.

It was exciting to see him come back after the disappointment of the big TV show. I know boxing sometimes looks like a brutal sport but there is a lot of precision and finesse in it also.

Gateway International Raceway

Or fans of the Nationwide NASCAR series, it will be back in just a few weeks at Gateway International Raceway. It all kicks off on July 18, 2009.

I talked to Lenny Batycki, the GM and VP of Gateway International Raceway this week and he mentioned that Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch will be the big guys in this race along with Kevin Harvick. This is a chance for the St. Louis racing fans to see some of the best if not the best racer in Kyle Busch right now in our own backyard.

Get the wife, the kids and pack up and go see one of these races. Last year, I encouraged several people to go and now they are big fans of the sport. Funny how that happens. Give it a shot.

I was appalled at first at the Nationwide race in Nashville, where Kyle Busch got out and smashed the guitar trophy into pieces. Later though, I took back my anger as he said that he was going to give each crew member a piece of the trophy and he ordered two new ones for him and his crew chief. Was it disrespect to the sport or not? I really think it is up to the individual and whether you are new school or old school.
