High School Girls Soccer Teams at Hazelwood Central, Trinity Catholic, Incarnate Word Academy and Lutheran North began the road to Swope Soccer Village, Kansas City, and the Missouri State Championships, began by winning district titles. Unfortunately, Lutheran North’s road and season ended May 19 at Orchard Farm. The Eagles shut out the Crusaders 10-0 in a Class Two Sectional game that ended at halftime.
HAZELWOOD CENTRAL was to play Jackson May 22 at James Eagan Civic Center Park in a Class Four Sectional. The winner plays Saturday, May 26, in a Class Four Quarterfinal for the right to play in Kansas City June 1-2. Had Hazelwood Central won the Hawks will play at Francis Howell North or Fort Zumwalt West, time to be determined
The Hawks won their 15th District title since 1987 but the first since 2014 after a 3-2 overtime win May 17 over McCluer North at Civic Center Park. Junior Jada Harvey, who assisted on the first two Hawk goals, scored the overtime game-winner. McCluer North sophomore goalkeeper Karina DuFour kept the Stars in the game with 13 saves.
Hazelwood Central played only a half of a District Two semifinal as the Hawks scored 10 first-half goals in a 10-0 shut out of Hazelwood East May 15 at Civic Center Park. Harvey, who netted four goals, and senior Logan Pratte, who scored three times, each had three assists.
TRINITY CATHOLIC was to play at The Principia May 23 in a Class One Quarterfinal. The winner heads to Swope Soccer Village May 30 for a 12 noon Semifinal against Fatima or Mountain Grove Liberty. On May 31, the games will be at 10 a.m. (Third Place) and 2 p.m. (Championship) against Perryville-St. Vincent, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Lone Jack or Summit Christian Academy.
The Titans secured their fourth consecutive district title, all in Class One, by Shutting out visiting Crossroads College Prep 3-0 in a May 16 District Three Final It was Trinity’s 11th District title since 2004 after the school took over the former Rosary High building in Aug. 2003, in a merger of St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy and Rosary.
Trinity opened Class One, District Three play May 15 by shutting out visiting Charles Sumner High 6-0 as six Titans each scored a goal including sophomore Emily Beumer, who added two assists. Sumner got a May 14 forfeit win over Northwest Academy of Law.
INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY was to play a Class Three Sectional May 22 against Villa Duchesne at Creve Coeur Soccer Complex. The winner advances to the Class Three Quarterfinal May 26 for the right to play at Swope Soccer Village June 1-2. Had IWA won the Red Knights at Fort Zumwalt South or St. Dominic.
IWA played only one-half of a game but it was good enough to win their 34th consecutive Missouri State High School Activities Association district title (their 36th in a row overall including two before MSHSAA sponsorship) . The Red Knights shut out visiting University City 11-0, with 11 first-half goals in the Class Three, District Six final on May 17. Junior Olivia Layton scored three goals and senior Emily Groark added four assists but it would have been more one sided if it were not for the 12 saves by University City senior goalkeeper Fumilola Adewale.
The Red Knights did not play May 15 as they got a forfeit win over Riverview Gardens. Las year the Red Knights played only 85 minutes in 10-0 victories over Riverview and McCluer High.
LUTHERAN NORTH, despite long their ninth consecutive Sectional game, won their eighth consecutive district title, their ninth since 2005. The Crusaders went to North Technical for Class Two, District Five and opened May 14 by shutting out the host Golden Eagles 10-0. The May 16 District Five final was a nail-biter as Lutheran North edged McCluer South-Berkeley 5-4 as the Crusaders broke a 3-3 halftime tie.
