Mayor Robert Lowery Announces He Will Not Seek Ee-election in April of 2011! Changes Mind

Mayor Robert Lowery, Sr. announced on Friday, Dec. 17  that he will be retiring as mayor of the City of Florissant at the end of his term and will not be seeking re-election in April of 2011. This just three weeks after his announcement that he will seek another term.  He has been mayor of Florissant for ten years and police chief prior to that.

Lowery, at the urging of his wife, Carol, has decided to step down as mayor and retire come April of 2011.

“This has been a very tough decision because I love this city and the people that live in this community dearly.  I have made this decision after consulting with my family and we all feel that it is the best thing for me to do at this time,” stated Mayor Lowery.

Mayor Lowery will finish out his term as mayor and will stay on until the new mayor of Florissant is sworn in.

“I cannot say enough of how appreciative I am to everyone that has always supported me. I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Mayor Lowery would have faced opposition in the mayor’s race from two city councilmembers Tom Schneider and Andrew Podleski and long-time Hazelwood School Board member Mark Behlmann. Another candidate, a state representative, is also considering running.  Filing for the position opens Jan. 3.
