St. Louis County Adds Almost 25-Acres to Creve Coeur Park
St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger has issued and signed an executive order adding approximately 25 acres to Creve Coeur Lake Park.
The land, a beautiful tract that overlooks the park, was the former home of the Lakeside Center, a residential youth treatment program that closed in 2016. The County Executive had indicated at that time that one possible future use of the land would be to add it to the adjacent County park.
“It’s important to use St. Louis County property in a fiscally prudent manner that offers maximum benefit for our community,” County Executive Stenger said. “Adding this land to our world-class parks system will allow for more green space, recreational services, programs and activities.
“Last week, County Councilman Sam Page requested legislation reflecting our shared vision for the former Lakeside Center site. This executive order expedites the process to convert the property to park land.”
After Lakeside closed in 2016, its services were transferred to Marygrove, the non-profit organization serving youths in Florissant. The move saved St. Louis County taxpayers $2.1 million per year, said Stenger, while giving the clients at Lakeside an opportunity to receive therapeutic and educational services in a community-based setting at Marygrove.
